Cookies with clear choices.
This policy explains what cookies are, how the RRBSA website uses them and how you can control non-essential cookies at any time.
Useful technology, explained properly.
Cookies help websites work, remember preferences and understand how visitors use particular pages. Some are necessary. Others should only operate after you have made an appropriate choice.
The RRBSA uses a cookie notice when you first visit the website. Your choice is remembered so the notice does not need to appear on every page.
This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Notice, which explains how the Association handles personal information more generally.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file placed on a computer, tablet or mobile device when a website is visited. Cookies can help a website recognise a device, remember a preference or understand how a service is being used.
Cookies may be set by the website being visited, known as first-party cookies, or by another organisation whose service appears on that website, known as third-party cookies.
A cookie cannot run software on your device. Its purpose is to store or communicate a small amount of information associated with a browser or device.
How this website uses cookies
The RRBSA website may use cookies and similar technologies to:
- deliver pages securely and support essential website functions;
- remember whether you have accepted, rejected or adjusted cookie choices;
- help protect forms and the website against spam, fraud or misuse;
- remember useful preferences where a feature requires this;
- understand how visitors use the website, where analytics have been enabled and consented to; and
- support content or functionality provided by an approved external service.
We do not use cookies to sell personal information.
Cookie categories
The types of cookies that may be used are grouped below. Not every category will necessarily be active at all times.
Strictly necessary
These support essential functions such as security, form handling, navigation and remembering cookie choices. The website cannot operate properly without them.
Preferences
These remember optional choices that improve convenience or personalise how a feature behaves.
Analytics
These help show which pages are visited and how the website performs. Information is used to understand and improve the site.
External content
Some embedded maps, videos or other third-party features may set cookies when their content is allowed or used.
| Category | Typical purpose | Control |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Security, basic operation, forms and recording consent choices. | Required for the website to function. |
| Preferences | Remembering optional settings selected by a visitor. | Can be accepted or rejected where used. |
| Analytics | Measuring visits, page use and website performance. | Should operate only after the relevant choice. |
| External content | Displaying or supporting maps, video and other embedded services. | May depend upon consent or interaction with the feature. |
Third-party services
Some pages may include functionality supplied by another organisation, such as an embedded map, video, security service or measurement tool. A third party may set or read cookies when its service is used.
Third-party providers are responsible for explaining their own use of information. Their cookies and retention periods may change independently of the RRBSA.
Following a normal link to a member or another external website takes you to that organisation's service. Its privacy and cookie arrangements will then apply.
Managing your choices
When cookie choices are required, the website presents a notice allowing you to make them. Strictly necessary cookies remain available because they support essential operation.
You can review or change your decision by selecting the Cookie settings button displayed at the bottom of the website.
Browser controls
Most browsers also allow cookies to be viewed, blocked or deleted through their privacy settings. Blocking all cookies may prevent parts of this or another website from operating correctly.
- Deleting cookies may remove stored preferences, including your previous cookie choice.
- Blocking third-party cookies may affect embedded content.
- Private browsing can limit how long some cookies remain after a session.
How long cookies remain
A session cookie usually expires when the browser is closed. A persistent cookie remains for a defined period or until it is deleted.
The period depends upon the purpose of the cookie and the service that sets it. A cookie used to remember consent choices may remain longer than a temporary security or session cookie so that the website can respect the choice across future visits.
Cookies may be renewed when the website is revisited. You can remove stored cookies at any time using browser controls, although the website may then need to ask for your preferences again.
Updates to this policy
We may update this policy when website functionality, cookie controls, third-party services or legal requirements change. The latest version will be published on this page and its update date revised where a material change is made.
For more information about how personal information is handled, please read the RRBSA Privacy Notice.
Questions about cookies
If you have a question about the cookies used by the RRBSA website or believe your preferences are not being respected, please contact the Association with details of the device, browser and page concerned.
